Re: What are we??
Wed, February 1, 2006 - 2:24 PMAs a group, we are known as Generation X.
"Generation X" - basically anyone born roughly between 1965 and 1975. I just had to study this demographic for a research paper I wrote for school. Children of the 70s, teens of the 80s. The main idea of Gen X is that when they began to graduate from college- (early to mid 1990s) jobs were scarce (hence unemployed "slackers") and this is the first generation in the U.S. to not automatically do better financially than their parents.
Once known as cynical and apathetic, many Gen Xers have been late bloomers. The average age for marriage and having children has gone up since most cannot afford it in their twenties anymore. Returning home to live with parents until a career takes hold in late twenties is a new trend as well.
I have heard that after us is supposedly "Generation Y", "Generation Next", or what I like to call "People who hyperventilate without their cell phone" . I asked my friend who just turned 40 what he calls people in their 20s and he said "I dunno, I don't call them anything." -

Re: What are we??
Tue, February 14, 2006 - 3:32 PMGeneration x, although technically including us....really didn't. Slackers were just on the tail end and reflected a few changes. The truth is a little scary. The summer of love (that's us folks) started a huge explosion into the mainstream of experimantal thinking that was only at the very edges previously. I'm not just talking about PBS, either. If you think back to your early years, you might remember some interesting stuff. I know I was in sombodys case study at 3 years old as to how young children percieve and handle death. It didn't screw with me too much, but it was definately a sign of the times.

Tue, July 18, 2006 - 8:11 PMWell I always thought we were the shoot gun babies, i.e. dada got mumma preggies grandad showed dad the shot gun if he didn't do the right thing.
You hear all about the 60's hippy movement, vietnam, free love, magic mushrooms, lsd need i go on.
I think I stick with the fact that alot of my generation come from the free love era, mind you how many of our folks are still together? -

Re: What are we??
Wed, July 19, 2006 - 1:06 AMBoth me and my husband (also 67) were both the children of WWII vets. I never understood the children of hippies. The very idea of someone smoking pot with mom & dad seemed unnatural to me,. -

Re: What are we??
Mon, July 24, 2006 - 4:38 PMSorry didn't mean to offend my parents were young and I guess just having a good time, they were by no means hippies or pot smokers, but that is just my angle on 60's. I too was born in 67and am the proud granddaughter of a WW11 vet. I guess it also depends on your culture and the country you were born in with regard to which road our parents took. I am a kiwi of both Maori and Cornish ancestory so my up bringing was probably a lot different to other kids from other countries. But it is nice to meet and share those experiences and cultures with other people.
